SOLD....1983 R65, Silver. 10K Service, Chrome Shocks, BMW Saddlebags

#6386812 1983 R65, Silver. 10K Service, Chrome Shocks, BMW Touring Cases.

This 1983 BMW R65 is fully serviced and ready to ride. We have extensively reconditioned this bike. We inspected the top end and found that the valve guides were good, but the rings were poor. We de-carboned the heads, lapped the valves, replaced the rings, and resealed the top end. We also replaced the cam chain and tensionor and front seals, plus installed a new rear main seal and oil pump O’ring. The clutch was inspected and found to be in good condition.

The carbs were rebuilt, front Master Cylinder rebuilt, installed a braided stainless front brake line, front Steering Bearings replaced. The front forks were inspected and found good. The bike had an aftermarket ignition system that was not functioning properly, so we removed it and replaced it with good used and tested OE components.

Finally, we performed the full BMW Factory recommended 10K Service, and put some test ride miles on the bike.

There is a tool tray but it has had some corner repairs; solid, but not pretty. The bars are long Euro low, but we are willing to change them at no charge if the new owner desires. The seat has a custom cover. The Dunlop Tires are in very good condition. The exhaust is solid, with some staining on the headers, but the mufflers are very nice. There is only 1 mirror in the photos, but we plan to find a matching pair to install. Chrome Performance shocks with individual spring and rebound damping adjustments have been installed. There is a brown style sidestand, plus the stock sidestand is still installed (we will remove if you desire). The bike is equipped with a pair of BMW Touring Cases on black BMW mounts. We still need to fix some typical lid top cracks on the BMW Touring Cases; this will be done soon. The saddlebag locks all work and have a key. There are duplicate keys for the bike. The silver paint is solid and shinny. There are a few typical small chips and scratches in the paint, but they have been well touched up and are not easily noticed.

This bike is perfect for a entry level rider, or for any rider who finds most BMWs are “too tall” to straddle comfortably. With the bags giving you lots of secure storage, and the smaller motor providing plenty of power to be safe on the freeway yet get great fuel mileage, this bike would make a great daily commuting bike. With the addition of a small plexi shield, this bike would also be great for either the single touring rider, or 2-up day touring (if the passenger is not too far above average size).
