SOLD...........1978 BMW R100S #6162636, Red 31,120 Miles. Fresh 10K Service

1978 BMW R100S #6162636, Red 31,120 Miles. Fresh 10K Service. Very Clean!

We took this beautiful sporty 1978 R100S BMW all the way down to the frame, and painted it. While it was apart we removed the flywheel and clutch, cleaned and inspected it, lubed the clutch splines, and replaced the rear main seal and oil pump o’ring.

The steering stem bearings were replaced, and the front forks carefully inspected and rebuilt. We installed a set of progressive fork springs. The wheel bearings were replaced and shimmed on the front wheel, and re-shimmed and serviced on the rear wheel, with new seals on both wheels. A pair of new Continental tires were mounted and balanced.

We upgraded the rear swingarm and driveshaft to the smoother running, stronger, and better handling 1981-84 unit. A pair of Progressive Suspension rear shocks were installed. The instrument set was cleaned and serviced. All rubber parts were carefully inspected and replaced as needed. New original Continental braided cloth covered fuel lines were installed. A new Westco sealed battery was installed. A Dyna III electronic ignition has been installed.

This BMW is very clean front to back, and inside out! The body paint is not original, but of very good quality. There are several minor paint flaws that will be pointed out in the high resolution photos #034-040(see bottom of page for link). The ignition key also fits the frame and seat locks. There is no key for the (unlocked) fuel cap. There is a tool tray, but no tool kit. A factory optional tail cowling mounted luggage rack has been installed. The title matches the frame numbers, not the engine numbers. The chrome exhaust system is clean and bright and in Very Good condition.

A complete BMW Factory recommended 10K service has been finished. It is very extensive, and goes deep into all areas of the bike. The details are:

Engine Tune: Torque heads, Adjust valves, Check air filter (replace if necessary), Inspect and gap spark plugs (replace if necessary), Set ignition timing (has electronic ignition), Check fuel lines (NEW), check intake boots, tighten clamps, Sync carbs, adjust fuel mixture, set hot idle. This bike would make an excellent and stylish daily commuter or a weekend tourer. The Factory S fairing has a clock and volt meter in the dash, and provides a basic wind break for your chest. The 1000cc motor has plenty of power for high speed two up riding or for pushing it hard through the twisty two lane back roads. All in all, this is a very nice Classic bike that you can be proud to be seen riding, and it is ready to go for decades of dependable sport / touring riding!
